Antigone Retold: The Woza Habibi Tour is a re-imagining of the ancient tale of Antigone, daughter of the cursed house of Oedipus and an anachronistic feminist icon who was centuries ahead of her time.

This version follows the tale of a fiery, fierce Antigone brought to life with a classical cast of Sophocleans who speak the words as they were first written in 441 BCE. However, interspersed amongst this ancient narrative, we witness the 21st century rebirth of Athena, Hera, Medusa, Aphrodite, Megara and Pandora who are summoned from their statued silence by Calliope, the muse of epic poetry and our new director. Set in an imaginary museum called The Elizabeth Sneddon and bursting with enough pop culture to make your head spin, Calliope and her troupe of Dionysian dancers shine the spotlight on The Seven Devils of Greek Mythology as they contemplate the complicated narrative of Antigone as it unfolds all around them.

Antigone Retold is a highly interactive theatrical experience which starts long before the curtain rises on the stage and continues for a full hour after the production ends! Making its debut in the bustling emirate of Dubai to great acclaim from multidisciplinary performers, installation artists, international professionals and audiences of all ages, our production was picked up for a brand new performance style for Emirates LitFest 2023.   And now? Collab Company is bringing the whole performance package to Durban for The Woza Habibi Tour! Collaborating with 6 originating members of our Dubai cast and over 30 local creatives from Durban, Antigone Retold is set to be the most intriguing and exhilarating theatre experiences of 2024.

The Collab Company encourages audience members to interact with their unique artistic installations which take place both before and after the main performance.  So, what are you waiting for? Get your ticket now... and woza habibi!
