27 Oct 2012 Contemporary Dance
Apart from a huge portfolio of award winning professional dance theatre work, FLATFOOT DANCE COMPANY’s commitment to growing dance in KwaZulu-Natal over the last nine years of its professional life, sees the company offering dance development projects and youth dance development programmes to over 1000 KZN based children and youth each year.
These programmes are run in both rural and urban areas in KZN. DANCE SOME MORE 2012 is the culmination concert of the past years dance training and development, and thanks to the support of the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre, an opportunity for our young dancers to perform in a professional theatre situation. We will showcase dancers from our Umlazi, KwaMashu, Cleremont and Kenneth Garden’s based programmes, also with a special performance from LeftFeetFIRST!, our mixed ability/integrated dance programme run in collaboration with the Open Air School in Durban. DANCE SOME MORE 2012 features choreography by the 6 resident FLATFOOT dancer, Sifiso Khumalo, Tshediso Kabulu, Sifiso Majola, Julia Wilson, Lerato Lipere and Zinhle Nzama.
The afternoon’s dance showcase will also include “Knocking on Heaven’s Door” – a new worked created by Lliane Loots with the young adult FLATFOOT Training Company. Using a selection of the inimitable songs and music of Bob Dylan, this dance work is a lyrical and sometimes witty encounter with the activism and messages of a music icon. It has been choreographed to challenge these emerging dancers and allow them the opportunity to rise up to the stamina and technical training needed to sustain a full-length dance theatre work.
Join FLATFOOT DANCE COMPANY on the 27th October at 2pm for an afternoon that truly celebrates Durban’s up and coming talent and an afternoon that truly honours the transformative power of dance! Tickets cost R20 and can be bought on the day at the Sneddon Box office from one hour before the show.
