9-13 March 2010 International Writer's Festival
The Time of the Writer festival, co-ordinated annually by the Centre for Creative Arts (University of KwaZulu-Natal), celebrates its 13th edition with a five day programme of readings, presentations, discussions and book launches nightly. Despite a daunting funding climate which resulted in shortening the festival by one day, the festival brings South African and African writers together in a programme of stimulating literary events.
Evening readings, book launches and discussions will take place at the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre while wide-reaching day activities are spread across Durban and surrounding areas as part of the festival's ongoing effort to promote and nurture a culture of reading, writing and creative expression. This includes school visits, a prison writing workshop, and other seminars and workshops. The festival will also host a tribute evening to the life, creativity and activism of the late Dennis Brutus as the culmination of a full-day colloquium organised by the Centre for Civil Society.
With a line-up of 12 new and established writers the festival provides a stimulating platform for dialogue and exchange between writers, and a valuable opportunity for the public to gain insight into the creative processes and perspectives which inform their writing. The complete list of past participants and details of previous festival programmes may be viewed on the CCA website: www.cca.ukzn.ac.za Advance booking is through Computicket.
