4 Dec 2010 - 9 Jan 2011 Pantomime
What could be more fun than a romp through Sherwood Forest with the dashing Robin Hood and his Merry Men? This delightful journey through the enchanted forests and castles of Medieval England guarantees to thrill and delight audiences of all ages with dragons, forest creatures, transformations, battles and dances, and the fun of familiar songs and witty jokes.
The plot combines elements of an old 16th century English ballad about two babes, abandoned deep in the forest upon the orders of their wicked uncle, with the Robin Hood legend and a huge dollop of comedy in the form of Robin Hood's motley crew of merry men in tights, a really villainous sheriff and an unforgettable dame. Robin Hood and the Babes in the Wood is produced by KickstArt and directed by Steven Stead, with set designs by Greg King, choreography by Janna Ramos Violante and musical direction by Evan Roberts and Shelley Maclean.
Lyle Buxton stars as the swash-buckling hero, with the lovely Londiwe Dhlomo as his sweetheart, Maid Marian. Their nemesis is the evil Sheriff of Nottingham, played with rapping relish by Iain ‘Ewok’ Robinson. Darren King shakes out his skirts once again as the hilarious Nurse Nicely, while Peter Court and Bryan Hiles raise laughs aplenty as the two incompetent robbers, Cecil and Claude.
The magical forces of good and evil are personified in the characters of the kindly wizard, Merlin (Farai Gwaze) and the wicked but oh so glamorous enchantress, Morgan le Fey (Liesl Coppin). The Babes of the title are played alternately by Kiara Teunissen and Andrew Sutton, and Lindsey Morris and Joshua Arnold. Robin’s band of Merry Men are played by Marc Kay, Ntando Mncube, Clinton Small and Graeme Wicks.
