12-23 April 2023 Comedy/Variety
The Mcilroy family are fast becoming the ‘Kardashians of Durban’ - although without the botox, backsides and bank balance… But what they do have are children of legal working age, and they are prepared to use them! Their latest show, Family Business, is indeed a family affair: Aaron Mcilroy and Lisa Bobbert (and their offspring, Kaylee, Fiona and Grace Mcilroy) bring their unique brand of musical comedy genius to the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre for a limited season.
To quote Lisa Bobbert as her alter ego Charmaine, “I admire Kris Jenner so much and I’ve always wanted to be in a reality show! I even auditioned for the Desperate Housewives of Durban but I didn’t get a call back…So I decided ‘stuff them’, I will just put on my own family show!”
There’s never a dull moment with the Mcilroy’s - singing, dancing, crazy characters and plenty of audience participation is guaranteed as they perform a smorgasbord of songs and skits – with some great new material and medleys: Dolly Parton, Elvis, Tina Turner, Post Modern Jukebox, Abba as well as some local legendary South African hits. This comedy is guaranteed for the whole family by a whole family!
Family Business is directed by Darren King, and tickets are available through Computicket at any Checkers Money Market counter, via their call centre (0861 915 800) or online at https://tickets.computicket.com/event/family_business/7212862. Tickets are R200, with a discount price of R185 for scholars, students and pensioners. There is a low-price preview on Wednesday 12 April for R150.
